Embracing Nature: The Zen House in Hainburg an der Donau, Austria
Architectural Vision
In 2023, JAN TYRPEKL Architects unveiled the Zen House, a testament to the pursuit of a unique experience immersed in nature. Designed to foster relaxation, contemplation, and meaningful gatherings around the fire, the Zen House epitomizes a sanctuary for soulful activities set amidst natural splendor.
Remote Serenity
Situated within a remote corner of a farm complex, the Zen House stands as a tranquil retreat amidst verdant surroundings. Nestled between a young orchard and ancient trees, its archetypal house silhouette perches delicately on pillars, allowing the landscape to flow seamlessly beneath and around it.
Seamless Integration
The architectural concept revolves around a profound connection with the natural landscape, achieved through expansive glass walls. Elevated approximately 4 meters above the ground, the living space evokes the sensation of a bird’s nest, offering a cocoon of security and intimacy. Within, a harmonious blend of built-in furniture, including a bar and fireplace, fosters an atmosphere of comfort and conviviality.
Sustainable Construction
Constructed with sustainability in mind, the lower structure and terrace feature glued laminated larch timbers, ensuring durability and eco-friendliness. The building itself boasts a timber frame crafted from glued laminated spruce timbers, resting upon a solid wooden CLT panel platform. CLT panels further adorn the roof structure, marrying structural integrity with aesthetic elegance.
Future Possibilities
With an eye toward future enhancements, plans include the addition of a sauna, shower, and toilet nestled between the sturdy pillars, promising further indulgence in comfort and relaxation.
In essence, the Zen House transcends mere architecture, offering a serene haven where the boundary between indoor comfort and outdoor allure dissolves, inviting inhabitants to reconnect with nature and nourish the soul.
