Introduction to Píšť

Píšť, a quaint municipality nestled in the Opava county of the Czech Republic, boasts a rich history dating back centuries. With a population of approximately 2000 residents, it is renowned for its historical landmarks, including the Church of St. Lawrence and the octagonal chapel of St. John of Nepomuk.

A New Cultural Hub

In December 2018, a significant addition was made to Píšť’s administrative center with the inauguration of the Information and Cultural Center. Designed by knesl kyncl architects, this modern facility serves as a beacon of cultural enrichment and community engagement.

The Journey to Realization

The journey to construct the new municipal center began in 2005 with the commencement of the design and approval process. After a decade-long endeavor, construction commenced in 2017, culminating in the grand opening in December 2018. The inauguration coincided with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of collaboration among border municipalities in the region.

Architectural Design

The Information and Cultural Center comprises two interconnected structures, creating a vibrant public space known as the “piazzeta.” The main building, erected on the site of a former barn, houses a cultural hall, information center, library, and study hall. Notable features include large skylights illuminating the elevated spaces and a striking snow-white facade adorned with illuminated niches.

Future Expansion

The west side of the piazzeta is earmarked for future expansion, connecting the new center with the existing municipal office. This phase of construction, slated to commence soon, will incorporate additional clubrooms and a bicycle shed, further enhancing the center’s amenities and functionality.
