Every architectural endeavor begins with a vision, and for Studio Lawang’s Silver Lining House, that vision was rooted in the aspiration for a brighter tomorrow. Commissioned by a family relocating to Jakarta for their children’s education, the project unfolded on a plot measuring 8 x 20 meters, with careful consideration given to maximizing natural light, ventilation, and rainwater catchment.

Design Inspiration and Implementation

Drawing inspiration from Feng Shui principles, the design process commenced by overlaying the nine boxes of Feng Shui onto the plot, each representing a specific zone or function. This served as a guiding framework that inherently shaped the floor plan, resulting in a layout that honored the principles of balance and harmony. Despite the divided floor plan necessitated by Feng Shui requirements, the exterior design aimed for subtlety and serenity, manifesting as a simple white box.

Symbolism in Simplicity

The choice of a white exterior was deliberate, representing more than just an aesthetic preference. It symbolized the family’s transition to a new city, leaving behind familiar comforts to embark on a new chapter in their lives. Like a blank canvas awaiting its artist’s touch, the pristine white walls of the Silver Lining House embodied the promise of a fresh start and the anticipation of realizing dreams for a better future.

Harmonious Details

To complement the understated elegance of the white facade, clear anodized aluminum windows, stainless steel railings, and exposed downpipes were meticulously selected. These elements not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal but also harmonized with the overall design concept. The use of texture paint on the exterior walls added depth and visual interest, enriching the facade with subtle nuances.
